Insurance Information

Do you take my insurance?

This is a frequently asked question that has a simple and a thorough answer.

The Simple Answer:

Yes is the simple answer.  Depending on the service, we do take some insurances including No-Fault Auto insurance and Worker's Compensation insurance as well as some other insurance plans that allow out of network benefits and the use of medical savings accounts.  Medicare also covers chiropractic.  If you have specific questions, our office can answer them.

The Thorough Answer:

The thorough answer is that not all insurances pay for what we do at the Delmar Wellness Center.  The insurance industry is motivated by profit for CEO's and shareholders  As long as profit is factored into the delivery of health care patients will suffer.

Paying for preventative care is a long term undertaking.  It is not going to show a profit in the next quarter, but over the next generation.  In order to institutionalize preventive care that focuses on stress management, chiropractic, nutrition, exercise and non-drug options we need to move toward a single payer government managed program that keeps administrative costs to around 3-5%.  For-profit health insurance keeps those costs around 20%.   Patients need to understand that profit and health care delivery are wholly incompatible princples.

The social issue has to do with who makes health care decisions; the insurance company bean counters or the doctor and the patient.  As a health professional highly trained in anatomy and physiology I take great offense to lesser trained individuals or people trained in cost containment making decisions for my patients by denying funding for their care based on actuarial tables.   In my opinion, health care decisions should be left in the hands of the doctor and the patient.

What value do you place on your own health?
The one thing that you have to trade in this world is your mental and physical energy.  The basis of all of our actions is a healthy mind and body.  What is that worth to you?  Are you willing to put a little time and money into your body to prevent disease and enhance wellness?

Is the treatment that's getting paid for by the insurance company focused on just ameliorating symptoms or is it focused on healing?  Is doing hip replacement surgery the same as working to prevent degenerative joint disease?

"Place your money where your values are"

Taking care of your health is a lot like listening to public radio.  If you support it - it continues to operate, if you ignore it it goes away.  The Delmar Wellness Center has your best interests in mind.  We are here to  provide you with non-judgmental support and timely advice on complimentary therapies so you can have enjoy a superior quality of life.

Can I submit my bill for reimbursement?
Yes, our office manager, Jessica, will be more than happy to submit completed health claim forms for you along with the necessary documentation (diagnosis and procedure codes) to your insurance company. The greatest number of requests for reimbursements come from patients of complementary medicine; your demand for this kind of health care will steer insurance companies to make the change, just the way it did for chiropractic care not long ago.

Will my employer’s flexible medical spending account pay for the Delmar Center’s services and recommended supplements?
Yes. Most if not all of our services should be covered under these plans. You will need to check the details of your individual employer’s coverage. Spending pre-tax dollars on your health is a great 'insurance policy.'

It’s a matter of political will.
Presently, insurance companies fund campaigns and have a vested interest in keeping the status quo.  People have to get involved and that means writing and calling congress and demanding an end to the profit driven health insurance market.  Congress responds to two things money and political pressure from constituents.  If you remain silent then the campaign contributions are what get's heard.

Dr. Olejak has seen the damage done to patients by the current profit driven sickness care system we presently have.  Unless a greater focus is placed on prevention and lifestyle modification no amount of money is going to fix the system; because the sickness care model can't deliver health.  It's simply not designed for it.
